When you think of your current outdoor space, what comes to mind? Is it a feeling of relaxation and enjoyment – or does it bring up thoughts of work and stress? This past year has thrown everyone a huge curveball. Vacations have been cancelled, events have been postponed – it has been a hard year. But, what if you could escape to your backyard? Your own staycation – so to speak…
At Legacy Pavers we have built a reputation in the local area for designing and creating stunning outdoor kitchens, BBQs, seating walls, fire pits, walkways, driveways and more. In this blog and in the few to come, we are going to discuss in more detail some of these features and just why they might be a good fit for you and your family.
Not that this heading needs much explaining, but if you enjoy entertaining, then you will LOVE having an outdoor kitchen. Think of your own indoor kitchen, isn’t that where people gather during a party or get-together? What if you could expand that gathering area by taking it outdoors! With an outdoor kitchen the sky is literally the limit. Some outdoor kitchens are simple while some are much more elaborate. It just depends on the type of cooking and entertaining you plan to do as well as the budget you want to allocate for the project.
If you enjoy grilling, then imagine how a built in BBQ will change the everyday experience you have while grilling! Like outdoor kitchens, built in BBQ’s can be as elaborate or as simple as you wish. Many people strive to design a BBQ with a large countertop area that can double as a buffet table for larger gatherings. Others, would prefer to allocate that space for an outdoor sink (Imagine the convenience of that!).
We will cover more in future blogs, but the most important thing is that however you design your backyard, make sure you love it and it is a place where you want to spend time. We invite you to visit our website and gain inspiration for your outdoor space.
It’s all about the landscape!
Few things can make a house look attractive (or unattractive for that matter) more than landscape. Think about some of the houses on your block, no matter if it is intentional or not, judgments are made about the people living inside based upon the initial assessment of the home’s curb appeal.
As with everything, landscaping is something that can be completely done on more of a basic level, or it can be something more complicated. It truly just depends on both your budget and the need of the space. In this blog we are going to run through a few ideas that will help you get the most bang for your landscaping buck!
Rip it out…
Time and time again, we have seen people spruce up their yard – but neglect to ever get rid of what the actual problem is. Large and overgrown plants date a house faster than anything else! Another small piece of advice, when you meet with your landscaper –listen to what they recommend. They are professionals for a reason.
Define the planters…
If you have an older home, or a home that hasn’t been recently landscaped in a long time, it may be important to redefine the planters. If you have grass that runs up next to the planter, landscape curbing is a great and effective way to section off the space.

Divide your outdoor space into sections…
Now we know that at first this might seem a bit strange – why would you want to divide your outdoor space into sections? Well, think of it more in terms of mapping out the areas that will be used and how they will be functional. For example, if you know that you want to have a patio with seating, a sports court, a BBQ and a fire pit – that is a lot to put in a space. Map it out on paper, consider how the sections relate to each other. Do you want the sports court away from the BBQ? Do you want the BBQ close the kitchen? Do you want the fire pit close to the patio and the seating area close to the BBQ? Having well defined spaces for specific activities will help increase the overall flow of your outdoor space. Many times people randomly place things here or there without giving much thought into it. When dividing these spaces, consider how many people you will be entertaining as well.
Determine what type of BBQ you want…
Outdoor living in Florida incorporates food, family and friends! BBQ’s these days can be incredibly simple or they can be full extensions of a kitchen. When considering the type of BBQ you would like to have, take into consideration the type of meat that you would like to BBQ. Do you need a smoker? Do you need a rotisserie? In addition, what about sides? Do you need a stove? An oven? Outdoor kitchens can literally be as elaborate as you wish!
Determine the materials…
Obviously considering that our name is Legacy Pavers, we believe that pavers are a stunning material to work with and they come in dozens of colors. While we believe this is the best material to work with but it doesn’t mean that you have to think the same thing. The next step is determining what type of materials that you want to use in your outdoor space. The options are nearly endless; the materials can range from pavers to concrete or anything else!
Determine the budget…
When planning your outdoor space, it is easy to get carried away and go over budget. We recommend establishing a budget ahead of time.
