Paver Retaining Walls

Many times when people think of retaining walls, the image that comes to mind is one of cylinder blocks that are gray and unattractive. What most don’t know is that pavers are strong and durable enough to be used as retaining walls also! Now, if you had your choice, would you rather look at gray cylinder block which may or may not be covered in stucco or would you rather look at a paver wall which would have gorgeous texture and beautiful variations of color? For us, the choice is simple!

Here are some examples of paver retaining walls:

Another way that many people use pavers is by creating a paver seating wall. A paver seating wall is a great way to 1.) improve flow of traffic 2.) increase amount of seating and 3.) it can also serve as a small retaining wall. Here are some beautiful paver seating walls that we just had to show you!

Spring is Here – Part II

Welcome back to the second part of our blog. Our first blog reviewed two very simple ways that you can refresh the exterior of your home for spring. In this blog, we’ll give you a few more tips and tricks!

1.) Few things scream “spring is here” like the addition of color! Head to your local nursery and grab a couple flats of color. Make sure you pay attention to the type of sun they require. The last thing you want to do is plant shade color in full sun – you won’t like the result! However, you will love the result of a freshly planted carpet of color to welcome you home!

2.) Fresh dirt or wood chips! It’s amazing, but something really simple like a nice dark layer of rich dirt or wood chips over the top of a flower bed can really make a difference. If you don’t believe us – just give it a try!

3.) Clean up your lights! Dirty cobwebs scream poor upkeep. So make sure you clean up any outdoor lighting fixtures and get rid of those cobwebs.

4.) Touch up the paint! Paint is a funny thing – it’s cheap to buy, yet the results can make something look like a million bucks. If the paint is peeling off your gate, or your door is all scuffed up – breathe new life into it with a coat of paint!

If you have any hardscape projects that are tad large for you to handle on your own – give us a call. We’d be happy to come out and give you an estimate.

Paver Blocks

When you hear the term “Pavers” – what comes to mind? Most likely you envision a flat pathway, driveway or patio. While that is what most pavers are used for, there is also a shape of paver known as paver blocks that allow for a lot of creativity.

Paver blocks come in many of the same colors, and textures as regular pavers. The main difference is the shape. As you may have guessed by now, paver blocks come in “block” forms – essentially squares and rectangles. Paver blocks allow for the building of gorgeous retaining walls, paver bbq’s, flower beds, seating walls and fire pits. Paver blocks allow designers to add dimension to a space while still allowing for the beauty and texture of traditional pavers.

For example here is a beautiful fire pit and seating wall. You can see how beautifully the paver block compliments the pavers that were used on the patio flooring.

As with traditional pavers, paver blocks are incredibly durable and strong. Because of their strength, they are a popular choirce for retaining walls and planters. Suddenly, ugly retaining walls can be turned into objects of beauty with paver block. Here is a great example of a material that is traditionally used for retaining walls (cinder block) and how beautiful a retaining wall of paver blocks can be in comparison.

Outdoor Living

Chances are that you have most likely heard of outdoor living. But do you know what this means for you and your backyard? If you have ever had any questions about outdoor living, this blog is for you.

What’s the Big Deal?

Chances are you are probably thinking, yeah, yeah, outdoor living – what’s the big deal. Well, we will tell you. Outdoor living is a way of extending your living space to the outdoors. Awesome-Outdoor-Living-fireplaceFor beautiful states (like Florida) this is quite popular. One of the great things about outdoor living is that it is a completely loose and flowing term. This means that if you would rather have a backyard designed to house and entertain a bunch of teenagers, then that is a part of outdoor living. If your style is one that is more of wanting to have an elegant space to entertain – then you guessed it, it fits the bill of outdoor living.

So, What Are Common Things That People Have in Their Backyards?

Many people who embrace the idea of outdoor living have installed BBQ’s, Fire Pits, Gazebo’s, and Outdoor Kitchens. The first step is to determine what you will use the outdoor space for – from there, the planning is fun and easy.

Outdoor Kitchens

The most commonly used feature of an outdoor living space is an outdoor kitchen. These kitchens are literally extensions of the one that is in your home. These spaces make a great area to entertain people and often come complete with BBQ, sink, burner, refrigerator and more.

The Use Of Pavers In Your Outdoor Space

As you can tell by the name of our company, we are absolutely in love with everything to do with pavers. If you are considering updating your backyard, we highly recommend the use of pavers. Not only are pavers cheaper than concrete, but they will last for decades with limited maintenance.

How to Make Your Outdoor Space Fantastic!

If you live in Florida– or virtually any place in the United States where the seasons are warm and beautiful, then you can appreciate the serenity that having a well groomed and manicured outdoor living space can bring. At Legacy Pavers, we love transforming broken down backyard spaces and transforming them into something that is truly beautiful. If you have a backyard space that needs a little sprucing up, then you have found the right blog. Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy our tips and tricks for a great outdoor space!

Divide your outdoor space into sections…

Now we know that at first this might seem a bit strange – why would you want to divide your outdoor space into sections? Well, think of it more in terms of mapping out the areas that will be used and how they will be functional. For example, if you know that you want to have a patio with seating, a sports court, a BBQ and a fire pit – that is a lot to put in a space. Map it out on paper, consider how the sections relate to each other. Do you want the sports court away from the BBQ? Do you want the BBQ close the kitchen? Do you want the fire pit close to the patio and the seating area close to the BBQ? Having well defined spaces for specific activities will help increase the overall flow of your outdoor space. Many times people randomly place things here or there without giving much thought into it. When dividing these spaces, consider how many people you will be entertaining as well.

Determine what type of BBQ you want…

Outdoor living in Florida incorporates food, family and friends! BBQ’s these days can be incredibly simple or they can be full extensions of a kitchen. When considering the type of BBQ you would like to have, take into consideration the type of meat that you would like to BBQ. Do you need a smoker? Do you need a rotisserie? In addition, what about sides? Do you need a stove? An oven? Outdoor kitchens can literally be as elaborate as you wish!

Determine the materials…

Obviously considering that our name is Legacy Pavers, we believe that pavers are a stunning material to work with and they come in dozens of colors. While we believe this is the best material to work with but it doesn’t mean that you have to think the same thing. The next step is determining what type of materials that you want to use in your outdoor space. The options are nearly endless; the materials can range from pavers to concrete or anything else!

Determine the budget…

When planning your outdoor space, it is easy to get carried away and go over budget. We recommend establishing a budget ahead of time.
