The Labor Day weekend always seems to signal the “end” of summer – even though we officially have a couple more weeks until the start of fall. One of the best parts about living in Florida is the beautiful year round weather! And for many – the fall months are a favorite. This year has thrown so many curve balls to all of us. Vacations have been cancelled, kids have been home, school policies have been changed, and many have had changes in terms of being able to work. Given all the stress, being able to retreat to your home and backyard have probably never been more important than it is now! In this blog and in the next few to come we are going to give you some practical tips that will help you turn your backyard into a bit of an oasis – where you can relax and take a mental break from life.
When it comes to landscaping, many people don’t recognize how fast landscape can grow. Very quickly, plants that once looked “beautifully in place” can appear overgrown, and seem to be taking over an area. The solution is simple – bust out the clippers! Trim back the hedges, bushes and trees! If you don’t know where to start, pick one plant and determine the shape you want it to take. Consider if it is obstructing a pathway? Is it blocking other plants? You will be amazed at how a fresh pruning will instantly make your outdoor space feel more open, well kept and in general, a place you want to spend time in.
Scrub it down…
Just like the inside of your home, your patio, concrete and even the exterior of your home can get dirty and full of grime build up. Breaking out the hose is a great solution to break up a build up all these things. A push broom can help you break up dirt and grime if need be, a simple exterior window washing at the end will help your outdoor space feel brand new!
When was the last time you gave your planters a bit of attention? It is very easy to let weeds take over. Examine each planter and pull out the weeds – a simple churning of the dirt will also give your flower beds a fresh and “kept” appearance.
